How to Receive and Sign E-Signature Documents

Sign Documents sent by email, track reminders and fix closed signature requests

Written by Serena Edwards

When an organization sends you a Document to sign, you’ll get an email with a link to review and sign it. The email shows the organization’s name and the name of the Document.

Step 1 — Open the Signature Request

  • Open the signature request email

  • Click Review & sign to open the Document

Step 2 — Sign the Document

This video shows how to sign an Enrollsy e-signature Document.

This video from Dropbox Sign shows the same steps for a general Document.

Note — Enrollsy Documents don’t include the Reassign, Decline or Download options shown in the Dropbox Sign video.

When a Document Has Multiple Signers

If a Document needs more than one signature, it’s sent to each signer in order:

  • The first signer gets the signature request by email

  • After the first signer signs, the second signer gets the request by email

  • Once everyone has signed, all signers get a confirmation email from noreply@mail.hellosign.com with the subject Everyone has signed [Company Name] - [Document Name]

Tip — Use a different email address for each signer. If two signers share an email address, that address gets a second signature request after the Document is signed the first time.

Signature Reminder Emails

If a Document isn’t signed, reminder emails are sent to the signer:

  • The first reminder is sent after 3 days

  • A second reminder is sent after 7 days if the Document still isn’t signed

Troubleshoot a Closed Signature Request

If you see This signature request has been closed when you open a Document, the request is closed and you can no longer sign it.

Closed by a Signer

The request closes on its own when:

  • The Document has already been signed

  • One of the signers declined to sign

For example, if two parents share an email address, one of them may have already signed the Document without telling the other.

Closed by an Admin

If an Admin canceled or deleted the request, contact the organization you’re enrolled with.

  • Admins can see whether the Document has been signed

  • If it hasn’t been signed, an Admin can send a new signature request
